Hi! My name is Laura. I’ve been a massage therapist for 13 years, in NYC and now in NC. I've worked at high end salons, spas and hotels, with excellent chiropractors, physical therapists and an occupational therapist. I love mixing techniques (Swedish, Myofascial and Trigger Point Therapy) to bring the best and most helpful tailored work to increase circulation, promote relaxation and relieve muscle tension. I tend towards deeper pressure and prefer to get to the root of an issue, but also enjoy giving a good relaxing massage! Abba is your Ultimate Healer. At Healing Massage, my goal is to work out the "knots" and provide your body with better access to everything that He has already placed in it to heal. Swedish uses long, flowing strokes to ease tension, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. This classic massage is perfect for rest and relaxation. Swedish massage can also be deep. I use this modality as a base for most table massage.
Trigger points are mini spots of inflammation in your muscles commonly characterized by referred pain. For example, I may press on top of your shoulder and you might feel it in your head, or press below your knee and you might feel a sensation in your ankle. Trigger Point Therapy work is a search for those trigger points to ultimately relieve tension. This work takes a lot of breathing through and is not for the faint of heart:).
Deep tissue is designed to relieve chronic muscle tension and improve mobility. Different modalities can be the base for deep tissue. A variety of techniques can be used by going deeply into the muscle tissue to target problem areas.
Myofascial work can be done a couple of different ways. Typically this work is on the slower side. Myofascial work deals with the superficial layer of fascia which covers the entire body. Think of what happens if you tug at one part of a t-shirt, of how another part of the t-shirt will be pulled along with it. Myofascial technique works to "iron out" the superficial fascia.
Session tailored to the need of every individual. Pressure (light, medium or deep) and technique(s) used as assessed according to individual need. This time length is well suited for a lunch break, when an individual is on the go and for first time visitors. I will often recommend we work out of a chair, instead of off of a table for this time frame. Wear your work or your gym clothes for this one!
